When it comes to ensuring the health and safety of your home or business environment, you need more than just testing services — you need a trusted partner who understands the complexities of indoor environmental quality. At Indoor Environmental Technologies (IET), we bring decades of expertise to help you create safe, healthy, and resilient indoor spaces.
Trusted Mold and Air Quality Testing Helping Tampa Bay Homeowners Find the Source
You smell something musty, a family member keeps getting sick, water came in, or a lab report landed and you can't read it. Indoor Environmental Technologies answers those questions with data: whether mold or another contaminant is present, where the moisture feeding it started, and how far it has spread. Testing across Tampa Bay and the Gulf Coast since 1992.
Our Story
Founded in 1992, Indoor Environmental Technologies was born out of a clear need for comprehensive, science-driven solutions to indoor environmental challenges. Over the years, we have conducted more than 9,000 inspections across residential and commercial properties throughout Florida and the Southeast US. Our team recognized early on that many buildings suffered from hidden environmental hazards, and in St. Petersburg, FL, the climate creates favorable conditions for mold and mildew, along with chemical contaminants and moisture issues that can compromise occupant health and property value. We set out to fill this gap by combining advanced applied science with practical, actionable solutions tailored to each client’s unique environment.
Specialized Indoor Environmental Services
Today, IET is a leading name in indoor environmental technologies, offering a full spectrum of services including mold inspections, mold testing, air quality testing, and building health assessments tailored to manage high moisture levels and help prevent biological growth in homes. Our expertise spans single-family homes, high-rise condos, office buildings, hotels, and manufacturing facilities. We establish baseline environmental quality conditions and create standard operating procedures for ongoing building maintenance to protect occupants from potential contaminant exposure, while helping reduce asthma triggers and allergic reactions caused by mold, dust, and pollen, and preserving the integrity of your property.
What Makes Indoor Environmental Technologies Different
Your Air Quality Equipment — Is It Actually Working?
Most Tampa Bay buildings already have filters, dehumidifiers, UV lamps, or ventilators installed. Whether any of it performs as sold is a separate question. We measure. We don't sell, install, or service HVAC equipment.
Filtration
High MERV ratings capture more airborne particulates, but a filter fighting static pressure or leaking around its frame performs like the cheap one it replaced. HEPA filters capture 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns — pollen, pet dander, dust, mold spores. Activated carbon adsorbs odors, chemicals, and VOCs until it loads up, then stops working while looking identical. Before-and-after air sampling shows which is changing your actual counts.
Humidity
AC cools first and dries second, so a correctly sized unit in St. Petersburg, FL can still leave a home at 65% relative humidity. Whole-home dehumidifiers hold indoor humidity at 45–55%, where mold growth stalls. Smart thermostats are sold on maintaining consistent temperature and humidity. We log RH over time and across rooms to show whether either is holding.
Ventilation
Energy Recovery Ventilators bring fresh outdoor air in and push stale air out, transferring heat and moisture between streams. On the Gulf Coast, a misconfigured ERV adds humidity instead of removing it. Testing separates a ventilation problem from a source problem before you spend money on equipment.
UV Germicidal Systems
UV-C lamps in HVAC systems are designed to destroy the DNA of mold, bacteria, and viruses at the coil. Placement, intensity, and dwell time decide whether that happens. Surface and air sampling around the coil tells you if the coil is still a growth surface.
How We Find It
Hidden mold and VOCs require moisture meters, infrared cameras, and calibrated sampling sent to an accredited lab. Matthew Fitzgerald, MRSA5590, has run this work across Tampa Bay and the Gulf Coast since 1992.
